Peace

Sweet Peace, where dost thou dwell? I humbly crave,
Let me once know.
I sought thee in a secret cave,
And ask’d, if Peace were there,
A hollow wind did seem to answer, No:
Go seek elsewhere.

I did; and going did a rainbow note:
Surely, thought I,
This is the lace of Peace’s coat:
I will search out the matter.
But while I looked the clouds immediately
Did break and scatter.

Then went I to a garden and did spy
A gallant flower,
The crown-imperial: Sure, said I,
Peace at the root must dwell.
But when I digged, I saw a worm devour
What showed so well.

At length I met a rev’rend good old man;
Whom when for Peace

I did demand, he thus began:
There was a Prince of old
At Salem dwelt, who lived with good increase
Of flock and fold.

He sweetly lived; yet sweetness did not save
His life from foes.
But after death out of his grave
There sprang twelve stalks of wheat;
Which many wond’ring at, got some of those
To plant and set.

It prospered strangely, and did soon disperse
Through all the earth:
For they that taste it do rehearse
That virtue lies therein;
A secret virtue, bringing peace and mirth
By flight of sin.

Take of this grain, which in my garden grows,
And grows for you;
Make bread of it: and that repose
And peace, which ev’ry where
With so much earnestness you do pursue,
Is only there.

Some More From Einstein…

Posted on Updated on

As promised, some more quotes from that great man, who died on this day in history…

For those of us into teaching…

“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.”

And one for the dangers that face our civilisation at the present time…

“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.”

The Secret Password

Thank you for this sensible article. Giving a young child such a simple yet effective safeguard is an excellent way of adding another layer to their safety.

A copy of a letter I sent to all of the primary schools to save children – simple and super-effective – Please pass it on

My son is 25 years old now and it has always amazed me at how many parents through those 25 years, and even now, who have no idea about the idea of the Secret Password.  I used to work as a National Intelligence Support Officer for the police.  I have had projects that have highlighted the danger our children are in while getting to and from school and this is an issue which is not going to go away.

I have a simple solution that may help to keep children safer than they are now.

My son was five and starting school, and with my background and experience I was very aware of the dangers of kerb crawlers and people who would snatch kids from…

Today marks the anniversary of the death of Albert Einstein (1955).

He was indeed a remarkable man, overcoming difficulties and going down in history as one of the greatest minds known to humanity.

Below are a couple of my favourite quotes – especially picked for their relevance to education today.

“Learn from yesterday, Live for today, Hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.”

And…

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination.”

Maybe some more later…

Sounds

Listen – listen – across the land called Africa-
For the birds are singing here
The roar of the lioness – the whine of her cubs
The cry of the vultures – ever, ever circling there-

Oh – see for miles
No tangled web of wires
Endless horizons spread
No polluted mists – a view that will never tire

Listen – listen – across the land called Africa
The sun goes down – birds settle in every tree
The hunt begins – endless for their prey
For these are the sounds of Africa – they keep Africa free!

Thank you for this article. You have certainly made a good argument to drink more tea.

Tea has a plethora of health benefits, some of which I will list here.

Tea has polyphenols ( a type of antioxidant ) and phytochemicals). Most studies have focused on better known green and black teas.  1. Tea can boost exercise endurance.  2. can help reduce risk of heart attack. 3. Tea helps fight free radicals. 4.Tea is hydrating. Tea may lower risk of Parkinsons. 6. Studies suggest compounds in green tea could help diabetics better process sugars. 7. Green tea has been found to improve bone mineral density. 8. Tea might help in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimers.

So…. drink up and reap the benefits!
